Installation, Use, and Limitations

✅ Quick and easy installation

We use 3M VHB 5952 tape for version 1 and 3M VHB 4991 for version 2 – both are strong, flexible, and provide good adhesion even with minor imperfections. Most plastic types are ready for use after approximately 20 minutes. For rubber or extra oily plastics, we recommend allowing the adhesive to cure for 24 hours.

Before attaching

1. Prepare the surface
Remove casting residues or unevenness with a knife or file. A smooth surface gives the best result.

2. Sand the surface
Use the included sandpaper. The adhesive will get a better grip on a rough surface.

3. Clean the disc
Wash the area with water and dish soap. Dry thoroughly, then wipe with the included alcohol wipe. Let dry for about 1 minute.

4. Attach at room temperature
For optimal adhesive spread, you should attach DiscFinder at room temperature – preferably a little warmer (e.g., a bathroom with underfloor heating or in the sun).

5. Find the center
On the back of the included sheet, you will find a template you can cut out. You can also download it here.

6. Press!
Remove the protective film. Place DiscFinder in the center of the disc and press down with your thumb on all edges so that the entire unit makes contact. The adhesive is activated by pressure – for best results, place a glass or similar object on top and leave it overnight.

💡 Tip: If you find that the tape doesn't hold well enough on your disc, customers recommend trying Tec-7, Loctite Extreme Repair, 2-component adhesive, or super glue. Super glue is also practical to have on the course if the unit should pop off mid-round. We sell super glue as an accessory in our online store.

🎯 Centering

It is not critical that DiscFinder is exactly in the center, but it certainly feels better when it is. Download our template, cut out the areas marked "cut out", fold or cut equally from all three sides – and place DiscFinder in the center circle.

🔁 Switching between discs

You can move DiscFinder between discs, but it requires new tape or adhesive. Extra labels and super glue can be found in the online store.

Version 2

Turn on / off: 3 short presses on the left button.
Useful for avoiding accidental activation during transport. Battery is minimally affected – you can safely leave the unit on so it remembers your last settings.

⚠️ Realistic expectations

Warped discs

DiscFinder is designed to be lightweight, affordable, and robust – but just like your discs, it has its limits. In the event of hard impacts against trees or rocks, both the disc and the unit are exposed to significant forces.

In most cases, DiscFinder stays firmly attached, even after direct hits. Feel free to watch our video where we throw directly into a wall – the unit is still attached.

In rare cases, extremely hard impacts can cause the unit to detach or be damaged. This is normal – just as discs can also be damaged. Should this happen, you can easily reattach it with new tape or super glue.

The unit is built with simple components precisely to make it affordable and easy to repair or replace if necessary.

🌱 Environmental tip: Remove the battery before discarding the unit, or dispose of it as electronic waste.

😍 Who uses DiscFinder?

DiscFinder is for anyone tired of hunting for discs. Many players say they no longer hold back on tough holes where they would otherwise search for a long time—or lose the disc. Some set a longer timer so it only beeps after a few minutes; others want it almost immediately so they barely search at all. We have also had strong feedback from players with reduced vision. DiscFinder can extend the season too—early darkness and snow often end play otherwise.

⚙️ How do you use DiscFinder?

In short: start the timer and throw. If you don’t find the disc before time runs out, DiscFinder plays a melody so you can find it. You can usually hear it from about 20 meters; 30–40+ m in open terrain with little cover.

⏰ Does DiscFinder start playing right away?

Version 1: timer 30 seconds, 1, 2, or 3 minutes—then a melody until you find the disc.

Version 2: timer 1–3–5–10–15–20 minutes—then a melody (stops after 90 minutes).

⚡ How long does the battery last?

V1: with normal use (melody ~1 minute, 4–5 times per round), several seasons; battery replaceable (CR1632).

V2: smaller CR1216, not meant to be replaced without soldering; expect at least a couple of seasons with normal use.

Water can affect the battery—if it gets wet, rinse and dry ASAP.

🥏 Does DiscFinder affect disc flight?

Most players notice no difference; many throw farther because they aren’t afraid of losing the disc.

A few players—mostly high-level players—notice understability, overstability, or slightly less distance from the added weight. This has been reported for roughly 10 of 12,000+ units sold.

Impacts, wind, and cold affect flight far more. If you’re concerned, start with a 2-pack.

🧩 Do I need anything else?

Everything is included: batteries, double-sided tape/labels, sandpaper, and alcohol wipes. No GPS or Bluetooth—no phone required.

💧 Is DiscFinder waterproof?

V1: left in water overnight and retested weekly for a year—suitable for freshwater.

V2: water-resistant, not fully waterproof; rain and brief submersion are OK, but prolonged immersion may wet the components. It usually works again after drying.

For wet conditions, prefer V1.

👮‍♀️ Is DiscFinder PDGA approved?

Only relevant for PDGA-sanctioned events. The PDGA disallows disc modifications (stickers, paint, cracks, etc.), so DiscFinder is not allowed in those tournaments.

Yes, by appointment only. Note your preferred time on the order, and we’ll reply when we process it.

🚛 Delivery time and shipping price?

Shipping:

Norway: kr 59 (Postkasse).

Europe: €9.95 for orders €0–€29.95, or €12.95 for orders €30 and up (includes a €3 import fee; 3–5 business days).

Rest of the world: $9.95 (Norwegian Postal Service – Letter).

Orders usually ship within one business day from Drøbak.

DiscFinder helps extend the season—making it easier to find discs in snow, under leaves, or when it gets dark earlier.

💵 Are there any other costs?

Mainland Norway: no extra fees. Outside Norway: sold excluding VAT, with postage from Norway only—check your local VAT and import duties.
